Coaching is not training with a different name

Training transfers knowledge to a group. Coaching develops capability in a person or a team over time. Both have their place — but they solve different problems, and confusing them is the most common reason companies feel "training didn't work."

If your team doesn't know what a discovery question is, they need training. If they know what one is and still don't ask it on real calls, they need coaching.

Step 1 — The diagnostic

Every serious engagement starts by measuring, not lecturing. We audit the current state: close rates, cycle length, pipeline shape, and a skills assessment across the eight competencies of the sales funnel — from lead generation to closing, plus rapport-building and personality-reading.

The output is a skill radar: a visual map of exactly where the team is strong and where deals are leaking. Everything after this is targeted at the gaps, not a generic curriculum.

Step 2 — Setting the targets

Coaching without a scoreboard is conversation. Together we define the As-Is (current close rate, current confidence levels) and the To-Be (where you need those numbers in 6–12 months). These targets come from your own answers, and every subsequent session is accountable to them.

Step 3 — The working sessions

The core rhythm is a recurring session — weekly or bi-weekly depending on the track — applied to live work:

  • Real deals get reviewed against the Bullseye Method's six stages.
  • Real calls get replayed and coached line by line.
  • Real objections your team heard this week become next week's drills.

Nothing is hypothetical. That is the entire point.

Step 4 — Reinforcement and measurement

Between sessions, short reinforcement check-ins keep each concept alive (see why training doesn't stick for the science). Skill scores update as the team completes assessments, so the radar from Step 1 becomes a live progress chart, not a one-time snapshot.

Step 5 — The handover

A coaching engagement should end with your organization owning the system: documented playbooks, a manager cadence for continuing the deal reviews internally, and a measurement habit that survives after the coach steps back. If a coach makes themselves permanently necessary, that's a dependency, not development.

How long does it take?

Behavioral shifts show up within weeks. Reliable revenue impact typically lands in the 3–6 month window — long enough for new habits to touch enough deals to move the numbers. Our core tracks run 12 weeks with a 3-month minimum for exactly that reason.
